The Rockville Rock Hounds were swept at the hand of the Neptune Beach Pearl on Friday and Saturday, 10-9 and 5-4. On Friday, the Hounds blew the lead on more than one occassion before yielding the losing run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After a pair of walks, and a passed ball, the Pearl plated the final run via a wild pitch.
In the season, and series finale with the Pearl, the Hounds took a 3-0 lead into the 7th inning, mostly in part to a pair of home runs by Willy Homza and Grant St. Martin. Carson Haws pitched 6 scoreless innings, before giving up the tying runs in the 7th inning, capped off by a 2-run home run by the Pearl. Matt Hill would replace Haws, and yield 2 runs, on 2 hits of his own, to suffer the loss. The Hounds did threaten in the top of the 9th inning, scoring one, and getting the tying and go ahead runners on base, before a line out to the Pearl short stop ended the contest.
The Hounds, who already clinched 3rd place in the California Collegiate League North, will play their final two league contest on Tuesday and Wednesday, before hosting the Solano County Invitational Tournament, July 25-30.
