The season opener had everything you would expect. Lack of execution, a lot of walks, and bad play by play from the home team. It was the collegiate summer league setting, but it appeared that everybody from the players and the host's color guys looked as if it was the start of a long season. The color guys forgot their mics were on at break, and did not appear to know much info on the players from both the home and visiting team (all of which could be found by anybody with access to Google). That being said, the Rockville Rock Hounds opened up the 2017 season vs the historical Humbolt Crabs., in Arcata, CA. The Rock Hounds got off to a good start with a RBI triple by Garlind Webster (Eastern New Mexico). In the 5th inning Webster had a 2-run home run, which was enhanced by a solo shot by Grant St. Martin.
The Hounds blew a 4-1 lead, by allowing 3 runs on one hit to tie the game in the 6th. Multiple walks and errors cost the Rock Hounds the lead, and the game was knotted at 4-4 until the Crabs hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Former Rock Hound, Jae Wagner, who got into Chico State from the help from the Rock Hounds founder, got the win for the Crabs. The two teams meet tomorrow night at 7pm. Carson Haws (Eastern Illinois) gets the start for the Hounds.
