The Rockville Rock Hounds kicked off the 2017 season with a scrimmage vs the Vallejo Admirals on Tuesday. The Admirals, an Independent Professional Baseball Club, were playing their final pre-season game before opening up their season this Friday. The Rock Hounds fell to the Admirals 7-1, in a game that was halted after 7 1/2 innings due to the Admirals running out of pitching. The Rock Hounds, who are still waiting for the whole roster to arrive from their current colleges, used the day to see what type of guys they had. "We gave all of the hitters at bats, and got all of the pitchers (who were available) at least an inning of work", Manager Scott Stover stated. In fact, the Hounds "staffed it", throwing 7 different pitchers in the 8 innings of defense. Rockville, who has players from colleges like Brown, Utah, UNLV, UOP, USF, Eastern Illinois, Louisiana, and a number of division 2 & NAIA schools, played on the first official meeting day for the team. "Guys were meeting for the first time in the clubhouse, while we were handing out uniforms before pre-game."
The Hounds head to Humbolt for a 3 game series, starting Friday. Alex Pham (USF) is scheduled to start, with Carson Haws (Eastern Illinois) getting the start on Saturday. The final game of the series is listed as TBA. Rockville will open up California Collegiate League play on June 6th when they host the Healdsburg Prune Packers. 1st pitch is 5pm.
