Nothing But Comebacks Featured In Day 3 of the Solano Invitational

July 30, 2016

Day 3 of the Solano Invitational Collegiate Tournament was sponsored by the word "Comeback". All three games today were won by the team down with 3-6 outs left in the game. In game 1 today, the West Coast Kings took a 2-0 lead into the top of the 7th inning, only to give up a 3-run inning to the host Rally Factory Rock Hounds. Kirby Broadbent's pinch hit double put runners on 2nd & 3rd, then a 2-run double by Evan Faccenda tied it up 2-2. After a balk, Chase Grant hit a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home Faccenda for the go-ahead run.  Jae Wagner came in and pitched a scoreless bottom half to secure the victory for the Hounds.

In the second game today, the Hounds took a 4-1 lead into the 6th inning, only to see it slip away by a 4-run frame by NBO. NBO used a couple of singles, and a walk to get a run in and load the bases. In the end it was a 2-out bloop single that was mis-played by the Hounds right fielder, which cleared the bases and gave NBO a 5-4 lead. They held on with a scoreless 7th for the victory.

In the night cap the Solano Mudcats played a "must win" game to keep their hopes alive for advancing to the playoff round. The Mudcats took a 3-0 lead in to the bottom of the 7th. After a lead off strikeout, the Mudcats issued 5 straight free passes to NBO, with 2 walks and 3 hit batters. NBO followed with a broken bat single to tie the game, then after a strikeout Garrett Case hit a soft line drive off the glove of the Mudcats short stop, which fell into left field for the winning run.

With one day left of pool play action, three teams have punched their tickets to the playoff round, but still won't know which seed they are until tomorrow night. The winner of the Sac M's-Rock Hounds game tomorrow night will advance in bracket A with the West Coast Kings. The loser will play the Solano Mudcats in the consolation game on Sunday. The West Coast Kings (Bracket A), NBO, and the Auburn Wildcats (both Bracket B) have been guaranteed a spot in the playoff round, but won't know their seed until after tomorrow.

The 11:00am game tomorrow will be NBO vs Wildcats, the 1:45pm game will be Wildcats vs Sac M's, and the 4:30pm game will be the Sac M's vs the host Rock Hounds. The Rock Hounds game will be on SCSN TV.
