The Rally Factory Rock Hounds used a 5-run 8th inning to earn a split with the Walnut Creek Crawdads Collegiate Baseball Club on Thursday night. The Rock Hounds finally combined timely hitting with good bull pen help, all in the same 9 inning game. Starter Tommy Balmain (American River College) started the "All-Staff" effort for the Hounds. He pitched 2 scoreless innings, while striking out three Crawdads. After Wyatt McCampbell pitched a solid 4 2/3 innings, Freshman Jedd Fagg came in and tossed the final 1 1/3 to get the win. Trailing 4-3, Fagg (1-0) entered the game in the 8th inning, with a runner on 2nd base. He punched out the only batter he faced in the frame, then went on to strikeout 2 of the last 3 outs in the 9th inning, preserving the victory for the Rock Hounds. "He looked really sharp today", Head Coach Andrew Ayers explained. "Especially for his first outing of the year. We really needed the lift."
Offensively the Rock Hounds were able to use a 2-run seventh, and 5-run eighth to come out ahead of the visiting Crawdads. Red-Shirt Freshman Cody Gregory (Solano College) hit a 2-out, 2-run double to put the Hounds up 3-2. After allowing 2 unearned runs in the top of the 8th inning, Rally Factory erupted. Tyler Stover tripled with one out, then after a hit batter, a walk, and a wild pitch, Freshman Jack Pridy hit a 2-run double to put the Rock Hounds up for good, 6-4. Colton Freeman followed with an RBI single, while Gregory put on the finishing touches with an RBI double. It was Gregory's 3rd double of the game.
The Rock Hounds will travel to Tahoe to play the Reno Astros in a two game series, then travel back to Oakland to play the Neptune Beach Pearl.
