After winning the season opener at the Redding Colt 45's on May 27, the Rally Factory Rock Hounds lost 4 straight contests. The Rock Hounds dropped the final 2 games to the Colt 45's. The Hounds out hit Redding in the final two contests, but the walks played a big part in the losses. The tables were turned today with the Solano Mudcats being the unfortunate benefactor. The Mudcats walked 8 Rock Hound batters and hit 4 additional hitters. They only countered with 4 strikeouts to go with the 12 free passes. The Rock Hounds only allowed 2 free passes in the contest, while striking out 10 Mudcats. In the end, it was the bases loaded walk to pinch hitter Chase Grant (U of Nevada) that broke the back of the Mudcats pitching staff. The walk was one of two in the final inning. It plated Jared Ambuehl (Point Loma) for a "Walk-off" walk for the Rock Hounds.
Reliever Jae Wagner (Chico State) earned the win, throwing a scoreless 8th and 9th, allowing 1 hit and punching out 2. The offense was sparked by a 3-run home run from infielder Hank Pankratz in the second inning. After a hit and a two out walk to Joey Dodson, Pankratz sailed a deep flyball over the right field wall, to give the Rock Hounds an early 5-2 lead. He finished with two hits. Ambuehl finished going 3x4 with an RBI double, and Evan Faccenda was 2x4 with an RBI.
Over the weekend, Rally Factory lost to CCL defending champion Neptune Beach Pearl, in Oakland. The Hounds took an early 6-0 lead on a Garlind Webster 3-run home run, only to see it slip away fast, in route to a 19-7 defeat. It was there where the Rock Hounds fell victim to the free pass. The Hounds walked 11 Pearl batters, and hit 3.
The Rock Hounds will begin a quick two game series tomorrow at the Walnut Creek Crawdads. First pitch is 2pm at Laney College. The Hounds will host the Crawdads on Thursday at Yarbrough Stadium, on the grounds of Solano College. First pitch will be 5pm.
